2013

I don’t like January. As months go it’s not my favourite. It’s nearly always cold, wet and dark, very dark. I’m fed up with getting up in the dark, coming home in the dark and being at work for what little daylight there is in-between.

The bonus of being paid early in December has long given way to the harsh reality of having to budget for a payday that’s so far away it’s out of sight after the inevitable overspend at Christmas and it feels like we’ve been trapped in the house forever, forced to stay in by economic constraints, snow and an overwhelming ‘can’t be bothered’ mood! It’s lovely living in the countryside in the summer but it can feel desolate and isolated in the winter. Every winter we say we’re going to move, every winter we crave streetlights, public transport, a pub we can walk to, shops, noise, people and the social life that comes with living in a town or City or a village or anywhere that’s not the middle of a field!

Maybe this year?

I don’t make resolutions, but there are things that I’d like to do this year. Nothing earth shattering or life changing just a few goals to aim for.

  •  I’d like to have an empty inbox at the end of the day (work and home)
  • I’d like to write some interesting, witty, inspiring blog posts.
  • I’d like to be Freshly Pressed
  • I’d like a holiday
  • I’d like to get out with my camera more.
  • I’d like to take less photographs, putting more thought into getting the right shot not taking a dozen of the same thing so I have lots to choose from.
  • I’d like to complete a 365-photo project starting on my Birthday this year and finishing on my Birthday next year. Next year is a biggie! It’s a huge milestone and worthy of a full-blown mid-life crisis so, more than any other year, I should document this one somehow.

There are a few things I need to do, and will do.

  •  I will give up smoking (again)
  • I will get back to the weight I’m happy at
  • I will get more exercise
  • I will stop trying to do everything at once and prioritise more.
  • I will say no to requests and projects that I either don’t want to do or don’t have the time to do properly.
  • I will declutter the house and my life.
  • I will finish what I start.

 Happy New Year.
